UPDATE SEASON

Lot's going on over here in the studio. It's been a while but you'll really want to hear what's going on. So this past summer I've decided to put time/effort into getting my shop ready here in New Hampshire. Some upgrades to our current service needed to be done so that the shop can get some high power juice. That involved HAND DIGGING a 160ft. trench. Uphill. Both ways. That's finished, and all the 2" pipe has been laid before the winter hit. The line and the rest of the electricals will be finished early spring 2011. Late spring early summer 2011 the shop will get a new floor poured and a full buildout will be in order. I hope to have the first 44 roll out the doors in June of 2011. Keep your fingers crossed!

As for the website, I'm currently putting the finishing touches on a beta site and testing it. So far so good on Internet Explorer 7+, Safari, Opera, Google Chrome and Firefox. I've also got an online shop in the works along with some free downloads. Warranty info, pricing and the fit forms are finished and uploaded to the server. Kind of handy being a designer actually-I can handle all of this and make it exactly how I want it...

I'm also going to be shifting everything over to a Wordpress platform blog as well. I'll preserve this blog with the new WP platform so not to worry. Stay tuned and feel free to email me directly to get on a mailing list for when this stuff starts to roll out: khenry@44bikes.com

Sicklines reviewed the new e*thirteen SRS+ and LG1+ guides. To our surprise, Sicklines included the packaging we designed for e*thirteen! Check it out and get some. The new guides are amazing and we are proud to have made a contribution to this New England based brand.

BLACKCAP Client wins Retailer of the YEAR..

So early in 2008 we did a few cool little pieces for promotional purposes for a small farmers market, Woodstock Farmers' Market, based in Vermont. Nice woodblock print counter card, 2 sided piece with hand crafted letters along with a few in store posters and a few promo t-shirts. Also did a banner for the budding mail order business. We'll most likely be doing a few things in the future for them (fingers crossed..). Anyways-I get an email from the owner this afternoon:

"FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: The Woodstock Farmers’ Market has been selected Retailer of the Year by the National Association of Specialty Food Trade, a major trade association of the food industry."

SAY WHAT??

It continues:

"The award, a gold chef’s statue, will be presented in New York City at a special ceremony June 29th hosted by noted Chef Ming Tsai, owner of Blue Ginger, the much-honored Boston area restaurant. Nominations for Outstanding Specialty Food Retailer were made by members of NASFT, a not-for-profit trade association with more than 3,000 members in the U.S. and abroad. Retailers with the most nominations were asked to submit applications including photographs, promotional material, press kits, menus, letters from customers, training manuals and newsletters. The judges, including previous Outstanding Retailer winners, food manufacturers, distributors and journalists met at NAFST offices in New York to select the winners."

Wow-all we can say is #1: We're stunned. That we might have contributed just a little something to edge them over the top of the competition is amazing. #2 our hats sincerely go off to Woodstock Farmers' Market, SUPER NICE GUY Owner Patrick Crowl, and the rest of the staff. What an honor. Congratulations are in order for sure. Indeed-it must have been the counter cards..

Here's a new logo and poster we finished up for Jeff Archer at First Flight Bicycles. We also did the logo for his bike shop last year. The story behind all this is Jeff posted on a bike forum we frequent to look at bike porn and he asked if anyone could help design a logo for MOMBAT (Museum of Mountain Bike Art & Technology). We answered the request with one stipulation: he's not allowed to take money for our work on the museum piece. We wanted to help out a sport that we love and what better way than to create a logo for the new budding museum. Anyway-this bike rally of sorts has been going on for some time now-if you're in the great state of North Carolina, be sure to check it out. Should be a hoot. We also did some simple graphics for the new Mountain Goat Escape Route.. That Jeff Archer's got some iron's in the fire.

TED WOJCIK CUSTOM BICYCLES 2009 CATALOG

We've been helping out Master Framebuilder Ted Wojcik for a number of years now starting with the revision of his identity including logo, branding package and website. We did a bunch of other pieces like order forms, paint choices etc. Well we approach Ted with an idea: What about a pdf catalog? You don't have the cost of printing it, but its print ready as we build it in all the latest software (InDesign) which basically allows you to export documents as pdf's. Nice thing about this is Ted gets a catalog and saves some trees and doesn't have to commit to printing the catalog which although is nice to have, doesn't always reach your audience. Pdf's can be downloaded worldwide too.. another nice benefit. So without any further mumbo jumbo design talk, go check out catalog HERE. The goal was to bring some stoke and add some soul. e*thirteencomponents and BLACKCAPstudio recently partnered this past fall to design a complete packaging redesign for both their premium and pricepoint chain guide product lines. Their brand recently was refreshed in terms of logos, website and product. So the packaging and presentation of their product was a logical next step. We were stoked to be working with such a great company like e*thirteen. Can't show anything just yet but we were STOKED with the results. They are in production now and the finished product should be that much more tight. Hang tight kiddies...

Woodstock Farmers Market
